I was contacted by Tremaine a few weeks ago to photograph a surprise proposal which would hopefully turn into an engagement session. The couple lives in Ohio, USA and were in Toronto for a few days. He loved the idea of surprising Andria at Casa Loma. I was definitely on board. The plan was to shoot for about 15-20 minutes so that the couple would get more at ease and comfortable for the photos and for Tremaine to find a good spot to pop his question. We agreed that he would give me the thumbs-up while facing Andria when he was ready and satisfied with the location. At that point in time I was to announce that I have to change my lens and to step away from them a little bit to give them more space and privacy. And to make the moment a little more genuine in that I wanted the couple to just forget about me and focus on each other. If I had been 5 feet away it wouldn’t have been as good. For some reason Andria was doing “The Robot” and this gave Tremaine a moment to pull out the ring from his pocket and get down on one knee, completely surprising Andria. She said yes. 😀 It was very special to document the raw emotions that the couple displayed. Here are some photos from the session including the sequence during the proposal.
