One of my most rewarding events to document are Orthodox Baptisms.  They are just one hour, in beautiful Churches and are 99% documentary/candid.  It is a special Ceremony that unfolds in front of my lenses and I often have a lot of freedom to capture it my way.  The parents, Godparents, family and friends that are there to witness this event also feel the emotion as the child is smothered in olive oil and then submerged into the water three times.  On this day it was little Georgia who received this sacrament at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Church in the West side of Toronto.  Here are some of my favourite pictures.

I photographed Ella’s Baptism at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Toronto.  As always, it was an honour to document the event in such a beautiful setting.  Afterwards we headed to The Forth restaurant on the Danforth for the Reception.  Here are some of my favourite photos.

Almost all my engagement and family photoshoots occur in the evening.  This one started at 8am and we had some nice light to work with.  It just felt a little weird that the sun was rising as I was taking photos.  I’m so used to seeing the sun going down and this was the exact opposite.  Laura, Don, Jack and their 2 dogs met me at the park.  Earl Bales Park is located at Bathurst/Sheppard in Toronto.  They even have a dedicated dog park – and that’s we started our shoot.  Near the end little Jack finally succumbed to a gentle slumber much to his parents amusement 🙂  Here are some photos. Earl Bales Dog Park in TorontoDogs at Earl Bales park in TorontoFamily Photograpy at Earl Bales Park in TorontoFamily photographer at Earl Bales Park in TorontoAutumn family photography in Earl Bales Park TorontoFamily photographers at Earl Bales Park in TorontoNorth York Family photographer in parkFamily photography at Earl Bales Park in TorontoFamily photos by Toronto PhotographerFamily photos in Earl Bales Park TorontoDogs at Earl Bales Park in Toronto Pentax 645n Fuji 160NS The Find LabFamily Photography in TorontoToronto Couples PhotographerCouples Photographer in TorontoFamily photographer in North YorkToronto family photos

Erin was almost 9 months pregnant when we did this family session just north of Toronto.  We made all these photos in their backyard which had a bed of leaves all around.  The weather looked a bit iffy on this day but it worked out in the end.  The sun peaked out through the clouds for brief stretches and there was hardly any wind.  There was some light rain just as I was arriving but thankfully it ended.  It was a perfect evening.  Here are some photos from that day.

*Update – Erin and John welcomed a baby girl literally a week and a half after this photoshoot.  Congrats!!

I photographed Krystyna and Kyle’s engagement session at Edwards Gardens in Toronto.  We had some beautiful autumn colours and brilliant light to work with.  I find it amusing that so many of my couples tell me that they are not photogenic and they seem almost apologetic about it.  As I go through the photos I often wonder what makes some people think that.  Every single person is photogenic.  Whether its inner beauty or outer beauty or a great smile or intense eyes or anything else.  We all have it. Sometimes hidden, sometimes right out there for all to see.  One aspect of engagement photography that I really love is that these personal characteristics often come out because of each other.  It sometimes takes your significant other to elicit that shy, playful look or that ear to ear grin.  Or countless other emotions that I wish to capture for you.  Like always I shot a roll of medium format film with my digital ones and on this occasion it was Kodak Portra 400 on my Pentax 645n.  Scanned by the fine folks at The Find Lab.  Here are some photos.
